Falcons Drop 7-0 Decision to No. 53 BYU

The Air Force women's tennis team continued Mountain West Conference play on Saturday, falling to 53rd-ranked BYU 7-0 in Provo, Utah. With the victory, BYU improved to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in MWC play, while the Falcons fell to 9-10 and 0-2.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches. Elle Carney and Megan Price were off the court first after defeating junior Erlyn Rudico and sophomore Katrina Eromin, 8-3, at the No. 1 position. Kristina Doerr and Jocelyn Jensen clinched the point by downing sophomore Christen Monreal and freshman Allie Chermel, 8-6, at the No. 2 spot, while Elizaveta Ezhova and Chie Hayasaka won at No. 3, 8-3, over senior Christine Abayan and sophomore Sarah Cassman.
In singles play, Price gave BYU 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Chermel at the No. 3 spot. Hayasaka then downed Monreal, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 and Doerr clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Abayan at the top spot.
The best singles match came at the No. 4 position between Carney and Cassman. Carney claimed the first set 6-2, but Cassman rallied to win the second, 6-3, before Carney won the third, 6-3. Ezhova defeated Eromin, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and Jensen completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over freshman Shannon Young at the No. 6 spot.
Air Force plays at Utah on Sunday, March 29, beginning at 11 a.m.
