Air Force Swept Saturday At Southern Utah

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Air Force baseball team was swept in a doubleheader with Southern Utah Saturday at Dixie High School's Flyer Field. The Falcons dropped game one, 9-6, and game two, 10-7. The Falcons dropped to 4-6 on the season while the Thunderbirds are now 8-6.
In game one, a 6-0 Falcon lead was erased by an eight-run third inning, as Southern Utah rallied to a 9-6 win. The Thunderbirds erupted for eight hits in the third, highlighted by a grand slam by Nick Freitas.
Falcon reliever Mike Kazakoff (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in one-third inning off work. Air Force starter Evan Abrecht was roughed up for six runs in two innings of work. Michael Ruvolo and Matt Barattino also pitched in relief for the Falcons, combining to allow one run in 3.2 innings of work.
The Falcons had nine hits in the game, with freshman Blair Roberts leading the way with a 2-for-2, two-RBI performance. Daniel Walker also added a triple.
In game two, Southern Utah hit four home runs to pull away to the 10-7 win. After Air Force rallied back from a 6-1 deficit with a four-run fifth-inning, the Thunderbirds responded in the bottom-half of the inning with three runs. The Falcons also struggled defensively, committing a season-high five errors.
Falcon starter Casey Allen (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in 1.1 innings of work. Aaron Kurcz, Barattino, Brad Pingel and Ruvolo also pitched in relief in game two.
The Falcons had nine hits in the game, with Walker going 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Addison Gentry added a homer for Air Force.
Southern Utah had 11 hits in the game, with Ray Wright going 3-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, March 10, at Northern Colorado.
