Air Force Swept In Doubleheader vs. Creighton At Rosenblatt

OMAHA, Neb. - Air Force dropped both games of a doubleheader to Creighton Wednesday night at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium. The Falcons lost game one, 6-5, and game two, 6-0. Air Force is now 11-24 on the season, while the Jays improved to 19-17.
In game one, Creighton took advantage of a fielding miscue to win 6-5. With two outs in the bottom of the first, a fielding error led to four unearned runs as the Jays took a 4-1 lead. After the fielding miscue, Creighton scored runs on a single and then a three-run homer by T.J. Roemmich.
After Creighton plated a run the the second, Air Force came back with a three-run third to make it a 5-4 game. The Jays then tacked on an insurance run in the fifth to lead 6-4.
The Falcons pulled to within one run in the sixth with Nathan Carter's solo home run, hit midway up the bleachers in left field.
Air Force had six hits in the game, with Matt Alexander going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Daniel Walker also had a pair of RBIs for the Falcons.
Starter Evan Abrecht took the loss (0-4), allowing six runs, just two earned, in 4.2 innings pitched. Jake Petro pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, striking out two.
Creighton had seven hits in the game from seven players. Jay reliever Brandon Koenigstein (3-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Mike Nihsen. Koenigstein pitched 2.2 innings as did Nihsen. Jeremy Hauer pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and then gave way to Jack VanLeur, who recorded the final out of the game to pick up the save.
In game two, Otto Roberts and Matt Patterson combined on a six-hit shutout in the 6-0 Creighton win. The Jays scored pairs of runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Roberts (1-0) went 5.1 innings, scattering five hits and striking out two. Patterson pitched the final 1.2 innings.
Air Force starter Michael Ceci (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, in 3.1 innings pitched. Petro, Brad Pingel and Michael Ruvolo finished up in relief.
Addison Gentry went 3-for-3 to lead the Falcons in the game.
Creighton had eight hits in the game. Shortstop Elliot Soto went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 16 games.
Air Force baseball returns to action Friday, April 17, hosting #16 TCU at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. Admission is free for the entire series.
