The Air Force men's soccer team wrapped up its spring season with its annual Alumni Weekend May 1-3. The weekend was highlighted by junior goalie Jim Gullo earning the team's prestigious ACE Award and the varsity defeating the alumni, 5-1, in the annual alumni game.
The ACE (Attitude-Commitment-Effort) Award was started by the alumni association in 1999. It recognizes the student-athlete that excels in all pillars of the Air Force Academy and shows leadership, commitment and effort to the men's soccer program every day in practice and games.
"Jim started every game last season and had an outstanding spring for us," said Air Force head coach Doug Hill. "He put in the extra work and it has paid off for him."
Gullo, one of 10 starters that will return to the team in the fall of 2009, maintains a 3.8 cumulative GPA and 3.9 GPA in his major (Biochemistry) and is a standout cadet in the cadet wing.
2008 team MVP Steve Noller and Josh Rhynard each scored two goals while Jared Gomez added one for the varsity in the alumni game.
