Air Force Earns 10 MWC Scholar-Athlete Selections

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Air Force track and field team continued to claim academic recognition on Wednesday, June 24, as 10 of its cadet-athletes were named Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athletes. The men paced all Academy sports with seven selections, while the women's team added three.
Junior Austin Fritzke paced the seven selections by the men's team, with a 3.78 grade-point-average in electrical engineering. Three recently graduated Falcons - Justin Mason (3.71, aeronautical engineering), Daniel Castle (3.68, English) and Matt Williams (3.63, behavioral sciences) - all surpassed the 3.60 GPA mark. Junior Zachary Nordahl (sophomore Tyler Small (3.69, physics) and freshman Kip Weaver (3.59, undeclared) round out the men's representatives.
A trio of freshmen earned the honor for the women's team. Meghan Prinkey paced the team with a 3.63 GPA in astronautical engineering, while Jordan Stoddard (3.53) and Kimber Shealy (3.51) rounded out the trio with undeclared majors.
The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
