Falcons Win and Tie Last Weekend
The Falcons went 1-0-1 in its two games at Cadet Soccer Stadium last weekend. On Friday, senior Steven Noller scored his firsat goal if the season in a 1-1 tie with Belmont.
On Sunday, Air Force dominated in a 3-0 victory over Dayton, just the second time since the beginning of the 2006 season that the falcons scored at least three goals in one game. Senior Kevin Rosser scored a goal and added an assist, and Noller and junior John Tilton scored as well.
Tilton Nets First Career Goal
Junior John Tilton's game-winning goal on Sunday against Dayton was the first goal of his collegiate career. He placed a shot past the Dayton goalie after receiving a corner kick from Rosser. Tilton, an academic all-conference selection last season, entered the `09 campaign with one career assist.
Rosser Named to National Team of the Week
Air Force men's soccer player Kevin Rosser was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week for the period ending Sept. 13. The team recognizes the top eleven performers in the country.
Rosser, a senior midfielder from San Jose, Calif., led the Falcons to a win and a tie last weekend with one goal and two assists. Rosser currently leads the team in scoring with five points on one goal and three assists.
On Friday, Rosser assisted on Air Force's only goal in a 1-1 tie with Belmont. He placed a corner kick into the box that senior Steven Noller headed into the net. He was also second on the team with four total shots, two of the on goal, against the Bruins.
On Sunday, Rosser scored his first goal of the season and assisted on the game-winner as the Falcons blanked Dayton, 3-0. His assist came on another corner kick that junior John Tilton knocked in for his first career goal. All three of Rosser's assists this season have come off corner kicks. Later in the game, he fired a rocket from about 25 yards that Dayton's goalie got a hand on but fell behind him into the net for AFA's third goal.

Last Weekend's Recaps
Air Force 1, Belmont 1 (2ot)
Sept. 11, 2009 @ USAFA, Colo.
After 110 minutes of play, nothing was decided Friday night in front of 412 fans at Cadet Soccer Stadium as the Air Force men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with Belmont University. Senior Steven Noller scored for Air Force, now 1-1-1 this season, while Brandon Tarr scored for the Bruins, who are 0-2-1.
The Falcons dominated the first half, outshooting Belmont, 10-4, but could only muster three shots on goal. One of them was by Noller in the 44th minute that got by Belmont keeper Wes Wray, but Alex Davis kicked the ball off the line to preserve a 0-0 tie going into halftime.
Air Force kept the pressure on in the second half and finally broke through when Noller placed a header just under the crossbar in the 79th minute off a corner kick by fellow senior Kevin Rosser. It was Noller's first goal of the season and Rosser's second assist.
The Bruins responded less than four minutes later when Tarr notched his second goal of the season with a shot past Air Force goalie Jim Gullo from 12 yards out. Will Moorad collected the assist on the play.
Air Force was forced to play a man short when junior Kyle Moses was given a red card with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Tarr also got his second yellow of the game and was forced to leave the field in the final minute of the second overtime period.
Rosser had the only shot on goal in the overtime periods, a rocket from about 30 yards that was destined for the top part of the net, but Wray just got a piece of it and knocked it over the crossbar. Wray finished the game with five saves, while Gullo, who has allowed just one goal in each of AFA's three games this season, made just one save.
Air Force 3, Belmont 0
Sept. 13, 2009 @ USAFA, Colo.
Three different players scored and senior Jim Gullo posted his fourth career shutout Sunday as the Air Force men's soccer team defeated the University of Dayton, 3-0, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Junior John Tilton notched the first goal of his career and seniors Steven Noller and Kevin Rosser also scored as the Falcons improved to 2-1-1 this season. Dayton fell to 0-3-1.
Tilton opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal in the 37th minute when a corner kick from Rosser slid through everyone in the box and landed in front of Tilton on the far post. Tilton did the rest by placing a shot between Dayton goalie Tyler Picard and the near post. Rosser collected his third assist in four games, all coming off corner kicks.
Noller, who narrowly missed scoring in the 54th minute when his header found the crossbar and his ensuing point-blank shot was saved by Picard, finally found the back of the net in the 62nd minute with a shot from about six yards out. Sophomore John Melcher sent a pass through the defense to senior Josh Rhynard, who found Noller all alone in the middle of the box. Noller knocked it past Picard for his second goal in as many games. Melcher's assist was the first point of his career.
Rosser put the game away with just over three minutes remaining with a rocket shot from 25 yards that Picard jumped for and got a hand on, but the ball dropped in the net behind him for Rosser's first goal of the season. He leads the team with five points this season.
Gullo was solid once again in the nets for Air Force, as he had to make only two saves in posting his first shutout of the season. He has allowed just three goals in Air Force's four games this campaign.
Dayton's best scoring chance came with four minutes remaining in the game as Peter Chilemena's shot hit square off the crossbar with four minutes left.
