USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 match to Cal Poly Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The loss moved the Falcons to 1-6-1 on the season and improved the Mustangs to 3-4.
Bianca Burright scored the lone goal of the match in the 73rd minute firing to the lower right corner of the goal from 15 yards out. Morgan Miller assisted on the score.
In a game that featured 33 combined shots, Air Force could not find the back of the net in 20 tries. Cal Poly goalkeeper Coral Hoover made eight stops and the Mustang defense added two team saves for the win.
Freshman Sophia Lockerby led the Falcons with five shots, three on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Charity Blanton started the match and recorded two saves in the first 45 minutes of play. Sophomore Ariana Green stepped in for Blanton in the second-half and made a big save for AFA, stopping a breakaway one-on-one attempt by Cal Poly.
During halftime, Air Force soccer honored long-time former women's soccer head coach Marty Buckley. Buckley, who retired after the 2008 season, was AFA's first women's soccer coach and led the team for 17 years.
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Sept. 20, hosting New Hampshire. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m.
