Kevin Rosser Named Men's Soccer MVP

The Air Force men's soccer program honored six players at the team's annual banquet last weekend, including senior Kevin Rosser as the team's Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season. Senior Josh Rhynard earned the prestigious Coach's Award, senior Aaron Eshkenazi was named the Defensive MVP, senior Jared Gomez was named the Most Inspirational Player, sophomore John Melcher the Most Improved Player and freshman Kevin Durr the Rookie of the Year.
Rosser, a midfielder from San Jose, Calif., finished second on the team in scoring with 11 points in '09. He tied for the team lead with five assists and 10 shots on goal. Rosser, a two-year team captain and an all-MPSF first-team selection this year, finished his career with five goals and 11 assists, good for 22 points.
Rhynard, a forward from Helena, Mont., led the Falcons in scoring with 13 points on four goals and five assists. The Coach's Award is not given every year, but awarded when a player exhibits outstanding dedication and a work ethic worthy of the award. Rhynard, a team tri-captain in 2009, finished his career with 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points.
Eshkenazi, a defender from Coral Springs, Fla., started 16 games his final campaign. He was second on the team in minutes played and notched the first goal of his career, the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Furman. Eshkenazi, a team tri-captain in '09, started 51 of his 52 career games with the Falcons.
Gomez, a midfielder from Satellite Beach, Fla., played in 14 games in 2009, scored three goals and added an assist for seven points. He paced the team with two game-winning goals, including one with less than five minutes remaining in a 2-1 victory over UNLV.
Melcher, a midfielder from St. Simon Island, Ga., appeared in 16 games this season and started the first game of his career against Dayton. He also scored the first goal of his career this year against UMKC. Melcher finished the season with one goal and one assist for three points.
Durr, a midfielder from Garmisch, Germany, burst onto the scene this season in a big way. He was one of only three Falcons to start all 17 games and posted eight points on three goals and two assists. Durr, whose three goals came on just seven shots on goal, also proved to be one of the best playmakers on the team.
Air Force finished the season with a 7-8-2 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the MPSF.
