Five Falcons Named to Academic All-MPSF Team

Five Air Force men's soccer players have been named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation academic all-conference team for the 2009 season. Seniors Jim Gullo and Aaron Eshkenazi, juniors John Tilton and Kyle Moses and sophomore Garrett Getschow were all recognized for their academic excellence. This is the second consecutive selection for Gullo, Eshkenazi, Tilton and Moses and the first for Getschow. The five selections tied for the second-most among the eight teams in the MPSF.
Gullo, a goalkeeper from River Forest, Ill., has a 3.69 GPA in biochemistry. He appeared in eight games and started seven this season. Gullo had a 3-3-1 record and a 1.24 goals-against average.
Eshkenazi, a defender from Coral Springs, Fla., has a 3.25 GPA in civil engineering. He started 16 games and played the second-most minutes of any Falcon in '09. Eshkenazi, who led a defensive corps that allowed just 1.41 goals per game, scored the first goal of his career this season, the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Furman.
Tilton, a defender from Arlington, Wash., has a 3.06 GPA in biology. He played in 12 games and started eight this past season. He also scored the first goal of his career in '09 in a 3-0 win over Dayton.
Moses, a midfielder/forward from Huntington Beach, Calif., has a 3.17 GPA in systems engineering management. He started 16 games in 2009 and scored two goals and added two assists. Moses notched scores in a 4-0 win over Howard and a 6-3 victory over UMKC.
Getschow, a forward from Flower Mound, Texas, has a 3.03 GPA. He has yet to choose a major. Getschow appeared in 11 games, starting two of them, and finished tied for third on the team in scoring with eight points. He tied for the team lead with four goals.
The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation recognizes student-athletes for their academic excellence in the classroom, as well as their individual accomplishments in intercollegiate athletics for the 2009 season. Qualifying student-athletes must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better; must be at least a sophomore academically; must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution they are currently competing at; and must have participated in 50 percent or more to their institution's competition in their particular sport.
