USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's soccer team opened Mountain West Conference play with a 1-0 loss to Utah Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The loss dropped the Falcons to 7-5-1, 0-1 on the season, while the Utes improved to 3-10, 1-0.
Lauren Hair scored the lone goal of the match in the 38th minute. Hair got to a loose ball off her own deflected shot and cleaned up for the score from 5 yards out.
The Falcons had several close scoring chances, including one to end the game, but could not find the back of the net. With the final clock winding down, freshman Megan Dozier just missed beating Utah goalkeeper Hannah Turpen to the ball in front of the net and the game ended.
Utah out-shot Air Force 16-10. The Falcons did have the advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
Junior Bridgett Murphy led AFA with three shots, all on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Stambaugh had nine saves in the loss.
Air Force has the rest of the weekend off and will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 9, at BYU.
