Falcons Post 75-60 Victory Over Texas Southern

USAFA, Colo. - Playing its second game in three days, the Air Force women's basketball team earned a 75-60 victory over Texas Southern Tuesday evening at Clune Arena. The Falcons move to 3-4 overall on the season with the victory, while the Tigers drop to 0-6.
Senior Raimee Beck (Blackfoot, Idaho) led Air Force with a season-high 21 points, while sophomores Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.), Dymond James (Brambleton, Va.) and Kelsey Berger (Mentor, Ohio) all scored in double figures with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Beck, James and Jamela Satterfield (Jr., Sacramento, Calif.) each recorded seven rebounds to lead the Falcons on the boards.
For the second-straight game, Air Force never trailed, taking a 10-2 lead within the first three minutes of play. The Falcons led by as many as 21 points, holding a 30-9 advantage, before Texas Southern went on a 8-0 run to cut into the margin. The Tigers got as close as 11 points in the opening half, but Air Force scored nine points in the final minute of the period. Aided by a a pair of three-point shots by freshman Camille Thompson (McDonough, Ga.), the Falcons went into the intermission with a 47-27 lead.
The Falcons, who were 5-of-5 from three-point range in the first half, did not shoot as well after the break, but were still able to retain control of the game. Texas Southern cut the margin to 69-58 with just under two minutes to play, but Beck scored Air Force's last six points as the Falcons picked up their third win of the season.
Air Force had a slight 43-40 edge on rebounds and shot 44.4 percent from the field, while Texas Southern shot 37.7 percent for the game. The Falcons matched a season-high with 21 assists, led by Megan Muniz (So., Rio Rancho, N.M.) with five, and also recorded 13 steals, led by Satterfield with a career-high six.
The Falcons, who have already matched their season win total from 2009-10, play two more games this week, as they host the annual Air Force Classic Dec. 3-4. Air Force takes on Bryant at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by the Texas State-Weber State game at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Bryant and Weber State play the 2:00 p.m. contest, while Air Force and Texas State wrap up the tournament with a 4:30 p.m. game.
