Former Falcons Shine at USA Cross Country Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. - Six former letterwinners of the Air Force cross country team concluded competition this afternoon (Feb. 13) at the 2010 USA Cross Country Championships, which were held at the Plantes Ferry Recreation Park in a windy Spokane, Wash. The contingent of Academy graduates, competing at the meet as representatives of the U.S. Air Force, featured four former MVP award recipients.
Matt Williams (Class of 2009) posted the best finish amongst the former Falcons, clocking a time of 37.08 to place 21st in the 91-runner race. Fellow 2009-graduate Sean Houseworth was close behind, placing 26th in a time of 37.37. Two-time MVP Ben Payne (Class of 2004) finished 35th in 38.21, while Abe Wengel (Class of 2005) finished the course in 38.51 to finish 42nd. Fellow classmate Brian Dumm rounded out the Academy graduates in the men's race, as he placed 55th with an even time of 40-minutes.
Elissa Ballas, a member of the Class of 2003, represented the women's team. Competing on an 8K course, Ballas finished 41st in a time of 30.44.
