Air Force Duo Concludes Action at New Mexico Pentathlon

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Several members of the Air Force track and field team completed action late this evening (Feb. 5) at the New Mexico Classic and Combined Events Meet in Albuquerque, N.M. Senior Danielle McCarty placed 16th in the pentathlon, while sophomore Phaelen French posted a career-best total in the five-event competition.
McCarty tallied a combined score of 3258 to finish 16th in the pentathlon. Contributing to her total score was a time of 9.33 in the 60-meter hurdles, a career-best matching 5'3" in the high jump, a distance of 31'10¾" in the shot put, a mark of 15'11¾" in the long jump and a time of 2:33.88 in her first 800-meter run of the season.
French improved her personal-best total in the multi-event competition, tallying a combined score of 2894 to place 26th. Her score, a 50-point personal improvement, is the eighth-best score in Academy history. The sophomore posted a clearance of 4'7" in the high jump, clocked times of 10.32 in the 60-meter hurdles and 2:25.44 in the 800-meter run and recorded distances of 27'10¾" in the shot put and 16'2" in the long jump. Her time in the 800 was third in the 33-competitor event.
Five Falcons participated in the opening day of competition in the men's heptathlon. After four events, freshman James Dills is in ninth place with 2624 points, while classmate Michael Tibbs and junior Noah Palicia are sitting in 17th (2552) and 18th (2542), respectively, while freshman Blair O'Bryant (21st, 2322) and sophomore Jacob Ringrose (23rd, 2302) rounded out the Falcons' opening-day events.
Dills' marks included a 7.38 in the 60-meter dash, 20'0½" in the long jump, 36'2¾" in the shot put and 6'2¾" in the high jump. Tibbs recorded marks of 7.43 in the 60-meter dash, 20'1½" in the long jump, 39'10½" in the shot put and 5'8¾" in the high jump. Rounding out the events were Palicia (60-meter dash: 7.38, long jump: 19'10¾", shot put: 35'7¾", high jump: 6'0"), O'Bryant (60-meter dash: 7.51, long jump: 19'7", shot put: 33'4¾", high jump: 5'6½") and Ringrose (60-meter dash: 7.41, long jump: 18'9¾", shot put: 35'11¼", high jump: 5'4¼").
In the women's 5000-meter run, junior Katherine Ward clocked a time of 18:21.32 to place sixth. The results of several events were not made available at the conclusion of tonight's meet.
Air Force returns to action tomorrow (Feb. 6) for the second day of action at the New Mexico Classic and Combined Events Meet. The competition begins at 9 a.m., with the men's weight throw and the conclusion of the men's weight throw.
