INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On Wednesday evening, the NCAA released its brackets for the 2010 Division I Wrestling Championships. Air Force freshman Cole VonOhlen (Jackson, Minn.), who earned an automatic bid at 141 pounds, will be the Falcons' lone representative at this year's national championships.
VonOhlen, who is ranked 18th in the latest Intermat rankings, earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships after placing second at this year's West Regional. He enters next week's championships with a 31-7 overall record.
In his opening round match-up, VonOhlen is slated to face sixth-ranked Montell Marion of Iowa. One of only two true freshmen in the 33-wrestler bracket, VonOhlen has faced nine of this year's qualifiers at 141 pounds, carrying a 6-6 overall record against the field. Among his top victories are a technical fall over 11th-ranked Adin Duenas of Cal State Fullerton and a 10-0 major decision against Cal State Bakersfield's Elijah Nacita, currently ranked 13th in the nation.
The 2010 NCAA Championships are scheduled to run March 18-20 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.
