BALTIMORE, Md. -
In its first conference game of the season, the Air Force lacrosse team dropped an 18-3 contest to 16th-ranked Loyola Saturday afternoon at the Ridley Athletic Complex. With the loss, the Falcons drop to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the ECAC, while the Greyhounds improve to 4-2, 3-0 in the league.
Loyola scored less than a minute into the contest and never looked back, taking a 10-0 lead at the end of the first half. The Greyhounds were up 14-0 in the third period before junior captain Vinny Sandtorv (Centereach, N.Y.) broke the Falcons' scoring drought with an unassisted goal at the 2:09 mark in the quarter.
The Greyhounds started out the final stanza with a pair of goals to take a 16-1 advantage in the game. Sophomore Adam Paranka (Denver, Colo.) put Air Force back on the board with 8:28 left on the clock, but Loyola scored a goal on the ensuing face-off.
Senior captain Ridge Flick (Plano, Texas) kept his scoring streak alive, finding the back of the net with just over five minutes remaining on a feed from Paranka. The game score remained at 17-3 until a goal by the Greyhounds with 20 seconds left on the clock.
Air Force was penalized seven times in the game, giving up five man-up goals, while drawing just four penalties and scoring goal on the EMO. The Falcons also struggled at the face-off X, with Loyola winning 18-of-24 face-offs, including all six in the opening period.
Paranka's two points led Air Force, while Patrick Fanshaw scored six points (5g, 1a) for the Greyhounds. Three different goalkeepers saw action between the pipes for the Falcons, with sophomore Matt Sanders (Annapolis, Md.) posting a team-best seven saves.
The Falcons wrap up their spring break trip on Tuesday, March 23, when they visit Siena in a non-conference match-up. The game is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
