Air Force Falls to Siena, 5-2

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -

Coming up short in a defensive battle, the Air Force lacrosse team dropped a 5-2 decision to Siena Tuesday afternoon at Siena Field. The Falcons fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Saints improve to 3-3 on the year.

Siena grabbed a quick 1-0 lead with a goal in the opening minute of the contest, but the scoring slowed down with the Saints holding on to their one-goal advantage throughout the remainder of the period. An Air Force penalty in the final minute of the quarter led to another Siena goal with just three seconds on the clock.

After a scoreless second period, the Falcons got on the board just over six minutes into the third quarter. Sophomore Adam Paranka (Denver, Colo.) set up Jimmy Curran (Sr., North Brunswick, N.J.) with a clear shot at the net, as Air Force cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the Saints responded with a goal at the 7:21 mark to regain a two-point advantage.

With just under four minutes to play in the third quarter, Siena went up 4-1, but the Falcons were able to get back within two goals, as Paranka fed Curran for another score just as the clock ran out in the period.

The Saints added another goal with 6:32 on the clock in the final stanza. Meanwhile, Air Force was unable to get back on the board, despite outshooting Siena, 15-5, in the fourth quarter as the Saints held on for the 5-2 victory.

Junior Brian Wilson (Summit, N.J.) had a solid effort between the pipes for the Falcons, stopping 10 shots, for a season-best .667 save percentage.

Bryan Neufeld led the Saints with three goals, while All-American goalie Brent Herbst registered 12 saves in the contest.

The Falcons are back in action this Saturday, March 27, when they visit ECAC rival Denver for a 1:00 p.m. contest. The first of two games between the teams this season, this weekend's contest is being designated a non-conference match-up.
