Falcons Defeat UAB, 6-1

The Air Force women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match and improved to 12-2 this spring with a 6-1 victory Friday over UAB in Birmingham, Ala. UAB fell to 6-3 with the loss.

After losing the No. 1 doubles match, Air Force captured the doubles point with wins at the other two spots. Junior Katrina Eromin and sophomore Allie Chermel downed Brittany DeFelice and Menanteau Moolman, 8-3, at the No. 2 position, while junior Christen Monreal and freshman Christine Molina clinched the point with an 8-6 victory over Paula Alvarez and Jennifer Cape at No. 3.

The Falcons then ran away with the match with five wins. Monreal started things off with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Evelien Strijker a the No. 1 spot. Alvarez cut the lead to 2-1 with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 win over AFA sophomore Tahlia Smoke at No. 2. Freshman Hannah Dake continued her excellent play and won the No. 3 match, 6-4, 6-4 over Giorgia Romeo, while Cecil handled Moolman, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.

Junior Sarah Cassman won her 19^th overall singles match this season by rallying past DeFelice, 2-6, 6-2, (10-6) at the No. 5 spot, while Molina captured her 20^th victory of the saeason, defeating Cape, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.

"I was extremely impressed with how the team dealt with the elements today," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "With only two outdoor practices and the first outdoor match of the season, the team played very well dealing with the sun, the wind and competing at sea level. The fight and discipline that (Christen) Monreal and (Christine) Molina showed in doubles was extremely crucial in shifting the momentum and that attitude carried over into the singles. Once again, this was a total team effort!"

The Falcons return to the court on Saturday, March 6 when they face Wofford in Birmingham.
