Falcons Conclude Strong Showing at California Multi-Meet

AZUSA, Calif. - Backed by three first-place event finishes, seven members of the Air Force track and field team concluded competition at the California Decathlon and Heptathlon Event on Thursday, April 15, in Azusa, Calif. Freshman Michael Tibbs and senior Danielle McCarty paced their respective squads in the first multi-event meet of the season.
Competing in the "A" section of the California Decathlon, Tibbs finished seventh with a combined score of 6,306 points. Contributing to that score was a first-place finish in the discus throw (career-best, 127'10") and a fourth-place score in the pole vault (14'1½"). He also finished ninth in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.31) and in the javelin throw (144'0"), while finishing 10th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:06.49
Freshman Blair O'Bryant paced the trio of Falcons that were competing in the "B" section of the decathlon, as he scored 5,576 points to finish eighth. O'Bryant won the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:34.58. He also tied for fifth on the pole vault (13'1½") and finished sixth in the javelin throw (141'11"). O'Bryant also earned a distance of 96'5" in the discus throw (11th) and a time of 17.70 in the 110-meter hurdles (12th).
Sophomore Jacob Ringrose finished 10th with a combined score of 5,698 points, while freshman James Dills placed 13th with a tally of 5,490. Ringrose was the runner-up in the javelin throw, recording a career-best toss of 157'1". He earned a pair of eighth-place scores in the pole vault (12'9½") and 1500-meter run (4:56.02), while finishing 10th in the discus throw (101'0") and 13th in the 110-meter hurdles (17.84). Dills' best finish of the day came in the javelin throw, as he tossed a 151'1" to place fourth. Rounding out his day were marks in the 110-meter hurdles (17.07, 10th), discus throw (95'3", 12th), 1500-meter run (5:15.36, 13th) and pole vault (8'10¼", 15th).
In the women's heptathlon, McCarty paced the team with a 19th-place total of 4,241 points. Highlighting her day was an eighth-place time of 2:25.21 in the 800-meter run. She also recorded a season-best distance of 15'9" in the long jump and recorded a season-best throw of 83'2" in the javelin throw.
Freshman Lesly Torres debuted in the program's all-time top-10 list with a combined score of 4,017 points. Finishing 25th in the heptathlon, Torres became just the eighth female in program history to surpass the 4000-point mark. Contributing to her score was a distance of 17'1¼" in the long jump, a ninth-place throw of 84'1" in the javelin throw and a time of 2:42.59 in the 800-meter run.
Sophomore Phaelen French also competed in the two-day event, capturing 32nd-place score of 3,769. French was the event winner in the 800-meter race, clocking a career-best time of 2:19.96.She also recorded a season-best throw of 82'8" in the javelin throw and a long jump distance of 15'8¼".
