Conner Van Fossen Places Eighth in Javelin at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - Air Force junior Conner Van Fossen recorded a toss of 191'7" to place eighth in the javelin throw at the 101st annual Drake Relays on Friday, April 23, in Des Moines, Iowa. Van Fossen recorded a distance of 191'7" to finish eighth in the 27-member collegiate field.
Van Fossen's best throw came on his first attempt, as he tossed the 191'7" distance to open his competition. The junior also recorded distances of 186'9", 187'6", 182'0" and 180'6", as well as one foul attempt.
The quartet of Bryce Bergman, Chris Severino, Matt Jones and Manuel Smith also competed today at the Drake Relays, but were disqualified during the 4x400-meter relay.
The small contingent of Air Force athletes conclude competition tomorrow at the Drake Relays, as sophomore Robert Drye competes in the hammer throw at 2:15 p.m. (CST). The remainder of the squad was scheduled to compete at the Gem City Duals in Laramie, Wyo., but the meet was cancelled due to the weather.
