Whitney Wraps Up First Day at NCAA Regional

SANTEE, Calif. -
Following one round of competition, Air Force senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) is tied for 25th place at the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Southwest Regional Championship, being held at the par-72, 7,360-yard Carlton Oaks Golf Course.
Whitney, one of 10 participants in the regional competing as an individual, shot a 3-over-par 75 in the opening round. UNLV's Eddie Olson leads in the individual standings after firing a 68 (-4) on Thursday.
In the team standings, there is a four-way tie for first place, with Oregon, California, Tennessee and UNLV all sharing the top spot at 6-over-par (294).
At the conclusion of the regional competition, the top five teams and top individual not on an advancing team will move on to the championship finals, being held June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Round two of the Southwest Regional will begin tomorrow morning. Whitney will tee off from hole 10 at 10:00 a.m. (PT).
