Pair of Falcons finish under on first day of MW Championships

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Senior Brooks Morrell and junior Carson Baker each shot 71 (-1) in the first round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships, Sunday, May 3, at the Omni Tucson National Resort, Catalina Course.

Morrell and Baker are each tied for 21^st. Morrell made three birdies against just two bogeys on the day. Baker made five birdies on the day, including one on each of his last two holes.

Junior Eli Huntington eagled his first hole of the day, the 511-yard par-5 10^th hole as he finished at 73 (+1). Freshman Ben Zeiler shot 79 and senior Ted Davenport shot 80.

With a team score of 294 (+6), Air Force is in 11^th place, six shots ahead of Utah State. San Diego State, ranked 39^th in the nation and the four-time defending MW champions, lead the field at 273 (-15), Wyoming is second (275, -13) and San Jose State is third (277, -11).

San Diego State's Tyler Kowack leads the individual field with an opening round 65 (-7). Five players are tied at second at 67.

The second round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships begins at 7 am PT on Monday, May 4, at the Omni Tucson National Resort, Catalina Course. The first Falcon is on the course at 8 am PT going off of No. 10.
