Falcons and Denver Battle to Scoreless Draw

Air Force goalkeeper Matt Underwood made a career-high 11 saves and posted his first shutout of the season as the Falcons battled the University of Denver to a scoreless tie Saturday night at CIBER Field in the MPSF opener for each club.Air Force (6-2-1, 0-0-1 MPSF) and Denver (2-4-3, 0-0-1 MPSF) each had 22 shots in the game with DU putting 11 shots on goal, compared to nine by the Falcons. The Pioneers held the advantage in corners at 6-3.
Underwood made six saves in regulation, then saved five shots during the 20-minute overtime and notched the third shutout of his career. Junior midfielder Kevin Durr led all players with six total shots, while DU's Drew Beckie posted a game-high four shots on goal. Junior Zane Dydasco had four total shots off the bench.
The scoreless tie was Air Force's first since Oct. 7, 2005 when they battled then No. 1-ranked New Mexico to a 0-0 draw at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
The Falcons resume action next weekend with a pair of home games against UNLV on Friday, Oct. 7 and New Mexico on Sunday, Oct. 9.
