USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Five pairs of Falcons took to the ring on Nov. 10, as the Air Force boxing team hosted a round of Thursday Night Fights in the Cadet Boxing Room. Following the five middle-weight bouts, which ranged from 130- to 157-pounds, Glenn Miltenberg was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
Miltenberg closed out the night with a 152-pound bout with Craig Spranger. The contest, a rematch of last year's 147-pound Wing Open Championship bout, saw Miltenberg use six minutes of constant pressure and hard-punching to claim the judges' decision.
"You could tell Glenn was disappointed with the result last week at Army," assistant coach Capt Blake Baldi said. "He came out with something to prove tonight."
In the evening's closest bout, Kyle Gladney won a split decision over Tramaine Barnett at 157 pounds. Both boxers were very aggressive in the bout and threw a lot of punches, but Gladney was able to earn the decision by landing clearer scoring blows.
Michael Magtalas claimed victory over Charles Meyen at 134 pounds in the only bout that didn't go to the final bell. Magtalas' excellent combination punching forced the referee to stop the bout in the third round.
In a battle of Cadet Squadron 15, Stephen Bittner opened the night with a 130-pound decision over Roy Taylor at 130 pounds, while Will Petersen defeated Ethan Salgado by decision at 136 pounds.
The Falcons return to action on Nov. 18, when they host Friday Night Fights at 4:30 p.m.
