USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - With 14 Falcons stepping into the ring, the Air Force boxing team wrapped up seven rounds of Friday Night Fights on Nov. 18. Featuring bouts that ranged from 130 to 205 pounds, Craig Spranger was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
Spranger rebounded from a loss last week with a 151-pound decision over John Alora. Spranger controlled the bout from start to finish, using constant pressure and good combination punching.
Two bouts were called before the final bell. Chris Nelson showed his experience in a 170-pound bout with Siotame Latu, landing good one-two combinations to force the referee to stop the bout in the first round. Ethan Salgado also earned an early victory at 140 pounds, as he caused the referee to stop his bout with Gerald Lara in the second round.
Andrew Munoz also won a 140-pound contest, as he snapped Will Petersen's four-match win streak. Munoz was able to get inside and score against the taller fighter to earn a decision. Stephen Bittner defeated Michael Magtalas by decision at 130 pounds, while Kyle Gladney decisioned Malcolm Price at 157 pounds. At 205 pounds, Andrew Zaldivar defeated Ty Perich by decision.
Select boxers will travel to New York, N.Y., on Monday, Nov. 21, for the NCBA Showcase.
