HOUSTON, Texas - Junior Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.) scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Air Force women's basketball team to a 64-54 win over Texas Southern Saturday afternoon at HP&E Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Falcons was Dymond James (Jr., Brambleton, Va.) with a season-high 17 points, including a career-best 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
Air Force led by as many as 12 points in the early part of the second half, but Texas Southern slowly began to chip away at the Falcons' lead, cutting the margin to 51-49 at the 4:35 mark. However, Leipprandt scored the next four points to push Air Force's advantage back to four, and the Falcons hit five free throws in the final minute of the game to secure the 10-point victory.
With the win, Air Force improved to 2-2 on the season. It marks the Falcons' best start since the 2005-06 season, when Air Force won its first four games of the year.
Kiara Taylor led the Tigers with 11 points, while Kayla West added 10 points.
The Falcons are back in action Monday, when they visit Texas State for a 7:00 p.m. (CT) contest.
