SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Doomed by poor shooting from the field, the Air Force women's basketball team dropped a 68-50 decision to San Diego State Saturday afternoon at Viejas Arena. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 8-17 overall on the season (3-9 in the MWC), while the Aztecs improve to 12-13 overall, 6-7 in the league.
Sophomore Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.) scored a season-high 16 points to lead Air Force, while Kelsey Berger (So., Mentor, Ohio) added 12 points for the Falcons.
Air Force shot just 33.3 percent from the field, including 19 percent in the opening half, when the Falcons scored just four field goals. Air Force went into the second half trailing 31-17, but could never get closer than nine points the rest of the way, as the Aztecs shot 53.6 percent in the second half alone.
Despite their shooting woes from the field, the Falcons were productive from the foul line, knocking down 18-of-22 free throws, while the Aztecs converted on just 10-of-25 foul shots.
Air Force and San Diego State finished even on rebounds with 31 each, but the Falcons committed 23 turnovers, compared to 16 for the Aztecs.
The Falcons are back at home on Wednesday, Feb. 23, when they host Wyoming in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
