Former Falcons Shine at USA Cross Country Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Four former letterwinners of the Air Force cross country team concluded competition this afternoon (Saturday, Feb. 5) at the 2011 USA Cross Country Championships, which were held at Mission Bay Park in San Diego, Calif. The contingent of Academy graduates featured a pair of MVP award recipients and two members of the World Class Athlete Program.
The trio of 2009 Academy graduates included WCAP athletes Sean Houseworth and Matt Williams, who train at the Academy with Air Force head coach Juli Benson. Houseworth, the 2008 Most Valuable Runner, paced the graduates with a 23rd-place time of 37:38 in the 12K race, while Williams, the team's MVP in 2007, added a 38th-place time of 38:55. Daniel Castle rounded out the men's team with a 51st-place time of 39:51.
The race took place at Mission Bay Park - the site of the trio's final Mountain West Conference Championship event.
Elissa Ballas, a member of the Class of 2003, finished 43rd in the women's 8K race with a time of 31:15.
