Falcons Finish Ninth in NCAA Distance Medley Relay

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Air Force distance medley relay quartet of senior Tyler Stanley, sophomore Anthony Delgado, junior Nick White and senior Justin Tyner clocked a time of 9:42.59 to place ninth at the 2011 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas, on Friday, March 11.
Stanley, opening the race with the 1200-meter leg, ran a 2:59.30 and was in 11th when he handed off to Delgado for the 400-meter leg. Delgado ran 48.16 split in the 400-meter dash portion of the race to bring the Falcons' overall time to a 12th-place time of 3:47.56. Running the 800-meter leg of the relay, White clocked a time of 1:51.38. With the Falcons running a combined 11th-place time of 5:38.84, White handed off to Tyner for the final 1600-meter leg. Running the final leg in a time of 4:03.75, Tyner moved up several positions to give the Falcons a ninth-place overall time of 9:42.59.
BYU won the distance medley relay with a time of 9:29.28, while Indiana (9:29.65) and Minnesota (9:29.70) finished second and third, respectively. Notre Dame (4th, 9:30.16), Arizona (5th, 9:30.33), New Mexico (6th, 9:31.50), Villanova (7th, 9:34.39) and Stanford (8th, 9:35.02) rounded out the scoring placements. Air Force finished ninth in 9:42.59, while Oregon, which entered the race with the nation's fastest time, placed 10th (9:48.00) after struggling in the final leg. Arkansas placed 11th in 9:52.48, while Alabama was unable to finish the race following an injury to its final runner.
Tyner returns to the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium tomorrow (Saturday, March 12) for the national finals of the 3000-meter run. Action is slated to begin for Tyner at 6:55 p.m. (CST).
