Three Falcons Swim In Finals Friday at Indianapolis Grand Prix

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - A trio of Falcons swam in the finals of their respective events Friday at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, which is being swam at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. Haley Holcombe and Katharine Ernst swam in the women's 200 meter butterfly finals and Corydon Butler swam in the men's 400 freestlye finals.
Holcombe finished in 17th place in the 200 fly with a time of 2:20.65 and Ernst followed in 18th with a time of 2:20.92. Freshman Gabby Aranda also swam the 200 fly, placing 45th with a time of 2:29.76.
Junior Cassie Fletcher and freshman Erin Bleyl also swam for the Falcon women. Fletcher placed 53rd in the 50 free (27.79) and Bleyl took 60th in the 100 backstroke (1:08.50).
On the men's side Butler placed 19th in the 400 free finals with a time of 4:02.79.
The Falcons had a strong showing in the 100 backstroke events, with three Falcons placing in the top 40. Sophomore Kaleb Jenkins led the way with a 26th place finish (59.40), followed by Matt Millikin in 34th (59.95) and Angus MacDonald in 37th (1:00.31).
In the 200 fly, freshman Paul Leonhardt placed 39th with a time of 2:13.08. In the 50 free, sophomore Tim Martinelli placed 50th with a time of 24.54 and sophomore Anthony Chiaro placed 64th with a time of 25.09.
In the 200 breaststroke senior Josh Hammervold took 32nd with a time of 2:25.65. Junior Cody Deacon followed in 33rd with a time of 2:26.62.
