Air Force Baseball Falls To UNLV Sunday, 14-9

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball was downed by UNLV 14-9 in Mountain West Conference action Sunday at a rainy Falcon Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 18-33, 3-17 and improved the Rebels to 32-20, 9-11.
With the wind blowing out for the first time all weekend, the teams combined for 23 runs and 30 hits. UNLV had 19 hits in the game and took control of the game with a six-run fourth inning.
Air Force trailed 5-1 early in the game but a six-run third inning put the Falcons ahead 7-6. UNLV then responded with six runs of their own in the fourth to jump ahead 11-7.
The Falcons came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Rebels scored two in the fifth to go back up by four at 13-9. UNLV added one more run in the ninth.
Air Force had 11 hits in the game. Nathan Carter led the Falcons by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and four RBIs. Carter hit a three-run homer that capped the six-run third.
Alex Bast and Garrett Custons had two hits each for AFA, with Custons scoring two runs and throwing out a baserunner at catcher. Patrick Lobo also tripled for the Falcons.
UNLV was led offensively by Travis Feiner, who went 3-for-6 with a homer and five RBIs. Rebel reliever Buddy Borden (1-2) picked up the win. Jesse Garcia pitched four no-hit innings for the save. Starting pitcher Max Javate pitched 2.1 innings, allowing seven runs, five earned.
Air Force reliever Luke Dorlac (2-2) took the loss. Starting pitcher Michael Ceci pitched 1.1 innings, striking out two. Jack Hourin, Cameron White, Alex Baker and Stephen Colangelo also pitched in relief.
Air Force returns to action Thursday, May 19, hosting a doubleheader with BYU.
