Berger, Muniz Named to Academic All-MWC Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force women's basketball players Kelsey Berger (Mentor, Ohio) and Megan Muniz (Rio Rancho, N.M.) are among the 732 student-athletes named to the spring 2011 Academic All-Mountain West team, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. It is the second academic all-conference selection for Berger and the first academic All-MWC honor for Muniz.
Berger, who completed her sophomore year with a 3.41 GPA in biochemistry, played in all 31 games during the 2010-11 season, starting eight contests. She ranked fourth on the team with 7.9 points per contest, while adding 2.4 rebounds per game. Berger currently holds the Falcons' career three-point field goal percentage record, shooting 40 percent over the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, Muniz, a rising junior with a 3.44 GPA in operations research, was the Falcons' starting point guard for the 2010-11 season. While ranking fifth on the team with 6.4 points per game, Muniz recorded a team-best 116 assists on the season, a mark which ranks as the second-highest single-season total during the program's Division I era. Muniz also finished the season ranked fourth in the Mountain West in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8) and eighth in assists per game (3.07).
The spring 2011 Academic All-Mountain West team included athletes in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
