Air Force Wraps Up Competition at Lone Star Duals

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Air Force wrestling team posted a 2-2 record at the Lone Star Duals on Saturday, defeating Brown and Central Baptist, while falling to Chattanooga and Harvard.
In its first match-up of the day, Air Force (3-3) won just two bouts against Chattanooga to drop a 28-7 decision to the Mocs. Greg Rinker (So., Northampton, Pa.) opened the dual with a win for Air Force, posting a 15-7 major decision at 125 pounds. Chattanooga gained the lead with back-to-back wins in the next two bouts before third-ranked Cole VonOhlen (Jr., Jackson, Minn.) put the Falcons back on the board with a 6-0 decision at 149 pounds. However, the Mocs closed out the match with six straight victories.
Air Force rebounded with a 33-16 victory over Brown in its second dual of the day. The Falcons posted four pins in the match, including the first fall of the season for senior Tyler Untrauer (Midwest City, Okla.). Also registering falls for Air Force were VonOhlen, Josh Kreimier (So., Fort Collins, Colo.) and Josh Mohr (Jr., Pewaukee, Wis.). Sophomore Greg Isley (Toledo, Ohio) added a decision at 184 pounds, while heavyweight Bentley Alsup (Fr., Missoula, Mont.) was granted a forfeit victory.
The Falcons faced a tough Harvard squad in their third dual of the day, dropping a 27-12 decision to the Crimson. Air Force scored just three wins, including a fall by Rinker to open the match. VonOhlen handed 12th-ranked Corey Jantzen his first loss of the season, taking an 11-5 decision, while Alsup also scored a decision in the heavyweight match-up.
In the final dual of the day, Air Force rolled to a 56-0 victory over Central Baptist, scoring four falls in seven contested bouts. Rinker earned his second fall of the day in the first match, while Dylan Hyder (Fr., Yelm, Wash.), Colby Kluesner (So., Denver, Colo.) and Alsup each registered falls as well. VonOhlen and Kreimier added tech falls at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, while freshman Carter McElhany (Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned a major decision at 141 pounds. Meanwhile, Clayton Gable (Jr., Dallastown, Pa.), Isley and Mohr each picked up six team points with forfeit victories at 174, 184 and 197 pounds, respectively.
Also on Saturday, the Falcons sent another group of wrestlers to the Borah Duals, where they faced host Western State, Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo. Air Force dropped all three duals, falling to host Western State, 37-3, Colorado Mesa, 27-18, and CSU-Pueblo, 29-12.
Sophomore Dan Barringer (Monument, Colo.) picked up the Falcons' lone win against the host Mountaineers, posting an 11-7 decision over Cody Frankum at 165 pounds. Against Colorado Mesa, freshman Jeremy Delzer (Fr., Altus, Okla.) notched a fall at 165 pounds to lead the Falcons, while Jack Carda (Fr., Kimball, S.D.) and Brook Gosch (So., Orwigsburg, Pa.) added decisions at 197 and 285 pounds, respectively. Also scoring points for the Falcons against the Mavericks was freshman Andy Jones (Grand Ledge, Mich.), who was awarded a forfeit at 141 pounds.
In the final dual of the day, freshman Cody Hancock (Wrightwood, Calif.) led Air Force against the Thunderwolves, registering a fall at 141 pounds. Also adding decisions against CSU-Pueblo were Brandon Mueller (Jr., Greenleaf, Wis.) at 157 pounds and Carda at 197 pounds.
Air Force is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 19, when it opens its dual slate against WWC foe Utah Valley.
