Falcons Fall to Longwood, 59-48

USAFA, Colo. - In its final non-conference game of the season, the Air Force women's basketball team dropped a 59-48 decision to visiting Longwood Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena.
Sophomore Megan O'Neil (Aurora, Colo.) was the lone Falcon to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points, while Camille Thompson (So., McDonough, Ga.) added nine points. Senior captain Jamela Satterfield (Sacramento, Calif.) also had a big game with seven points, six steals and a career-best 12 rebounds.
Crystal Smith led four Longwood players in double figures, finishing with 24 points, including 11 from the charity stripe.
While Longwood (3-15) scored the first basket of the game, the Falcons went on an 11-0 run over the first five minutes of the game to grab its largest advantage of the contest. However, the Lancers responded with a 14-2 spurt and never trailed again. Air Force (5-10) shot just 21.5 percent in the opening half and trailed by as many as seven points before going into the intermission with a 24-28 deficit.
The Lancers' pushed their lead to 16 points with just under 13 minutes to go, and while the Falcons were able to cut the margin to single-digits in the final three minutes of action, Longwood made free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Both teams shot under 30 percent for the game and each committed 24 turnovers, but Longwood held a 46-39 rebounding advantage. The Lancers also attempted 30 free throws, compared to 18 for the Falcons.
With their non-conference schedule complete, the Falcons begin Mountain West action on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when they visit in-state rival Colorado State in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
