Four Falcons Honored at Annual Banquet

The Air Force men's soccer program honored four players at the team's annual banquet, including junior Kevin Durr as the team's Most Valuable Player for the 2011 season. Sophomore Caleb Downey was named the Most Inspirational Player, junior Patrick Compton the Most Improved Player and freshman Zach Modly the Rookie of the Year.
Durr, a midfielder from Garmisch, Germany, led the team in scoring this season with 22 points. He scored six goals and dished out a team-high 10 assists. His 10 assists ranked second in the MPSF and seventh nationally and were the most by a Falcon in one season since Marcus Sagastume had 13 in 2003. Durr was a first-team all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and earn All-Far West region honors this season.
Downey, a midfielder from Evergreen, Colo., was a second-team All-MPSF selection this season after starting all 20 games at the midfield and recording one assist. His lone assist came on Air Force's first goal in a 6-1 rout of Buffalo. Downey attempted 13 total shots and four on goal in 2011.
Compton, a midfielder from Murfreesboro, Tenn., had one assist while appearing in all 20 games. He assisted on AFA's second goal of the season in a 5-2 victory over Houston Baptist.
Modly, a forward from Annapolis, Md.., played in all 20 games and started seven in 2011. He scored two goals and added two assists for six points and was fifth on the team with 29 shots.
The Falcons finished the 2011 season with a 12-6-2 record, their first winning season since 2003, and the most wins in one campaign since 1997 (13). They finished third in the MPSF and won its first conference tournament game since '03 before falling to Cal State Bakersfield in the MPSF semifinals.
In addition, Air Force won the University of Pittsburgh Tournament and finished 25th in the country on goals scored.
