Falcons Host UNLV in Mountain West Opener on Saturday

Air Force plays its first Mountain West match of the season this Saturday, March 3 against UNLV at the Academy. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will be played on AFA's indoor courts located insinde the Cadet Gymnasium. Admission is free to the public.

AIR FORCE HEAD COACH DAN OOSTERHOUS

Air Force head coach Dan Oosterhous is in his third season as the men's tennis coach after being named the program's 12th head coach on October 1, 2009. Oosterhous, a 1993 graduate of the Academy, replaced legendary head coach Rich Gugat, who retired after 36 years at the helm of the men's tennis program.

Oosterhous led the Falcons to a 10-14 record last season and has a 25-32 career mark. Last season, he coached the Falcons to a 6-1 victory over service-academy rival Army and Lance Wilhelm and Andy Jackson to a No. 7 doubles ranking in the Mountain Region. Wilhelm is currently ranked 17th in the Mountain Region in singles.

LAST TIME OUT

The Falcons dropped a 7-0 decision to 52nd-ranked BYU last Thursday at the Academy.

BYU swept all three doubles matches, including a pair of tiebreak wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Francis Sargeant and Spencer Smith downed Falcon sophomores Andy Jackson and Alex Grubbs 9-8 at No.2 m while Keaton Cullimore and Michael Eraso won the No. 3 match over Ali Rizvi and Joey Brandt by the same score.

In singles play, BYU won five of the six contests in straight sets. The lone three-setter came at the No. 4 spot, where Cullimore defeated Grubbs, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. Georgy Batrakov, ranked 50th in the country, won the No. 1 match, 7-6, 6-3 over AFA's Lance Wilhelm.
