
Falcons Conclude Second Day of AF Invitational

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Highlighted by two incursions into the Academy record book, the track and field team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Air Force Invitational on Friday, Jan. 24. Sophomore Naomi Alston recorded the program's ninth-fastest 400-meter time (58.29), while freshman Zoe Casteel matched the Academy's 10th-best pole vault clearance (11'11¾").
Alston's time of 58.29, a personal improvement of over one second, came in the qualifying heat of the 400-meter dash.
With a clearance of 11'11¾", Casteel paced the Air Force women to a sweep of the top-three placements in the unseeded pole vault, improving her overall height by one foot to match the 10th-best clearance in school history. Senior Paige Shirley matched 11'11¾" to equal her season high and finish second based on attempts, while sophomore Riley Vann posted a season-high 11'5¾" to finish third.
Air Force accounted for three of the top-five spots in the men's unseeded pole vault, as senior Elliott Beski won the event with a season-best clearance of 16'0¾". Freshmen Tyler Ginger and Kyle Pater rounded out the Falcons' placements, finishing third (15'1") and fifth (14'7¼"), respectively.
Junior Zach Christenson was the top Division I runner (third overall) in the unseeded mile behind a time of 4:33.35, while freshman Taelor Eyre earned a top-five finish in the unseeded high jump after clearing a career-best 5'3".
Although the majority of today's events were non-scoring (unseeded) competitions, the Falcons picked up a pair of scoring finishes in the weight throw from seniors Jalen Fooster and William Kent. Fooster placed seventh with a season-best distance of 58'9½", while Kent finished eighth with a throw of 58'3".
Qualifying rounds of the 200- and 400-meter races were also contested today, with junior Jake Spuller advancing to tomorrow's finals of the 200-meter dash after clocking a time of 22.12.
One meet record was set today, as BYU's Chase Dalton finished the heptathlon with 5,621 points.
Action at the Air Force Invitational concludes tomorrow (Jan. 25) at the Cadet Field House Indoor Track. The men's shot put, women's seeded pole vault and men's seeded high jump kick off the day at 10 a.m., while the first running event (qualifying heats of the women's 60-meter hurdles) begin at 11 a.m.
