Evan Urbina joins men's tennis program as assistant coach

Evan Urbina begins his first year as assistant men's tennis coach at the Air Force Academy. Urbina comes to the Academy from his alma mater Brigham Young, where he was the women's assistant coach since 2013.
Urbina is a 2011 graduate of BYU, where he earned a bachelor's in physical education and was a four-year letterman on the tennis team. He is the third-winningest player in school history, earning 29 wins as a senior to finish his career with a 98-57 singles record. He had an 80-56 career record in doubles. He finished his senior season ranked sixth in the Mountain Region in both singles and doubles and was selected twice to the All-MWC singles team.
Urbina began his coaching career at Orem High School as the boy's tennis coach in 2011-12 before moving to Florida State as an assistant coach for the 2012-13 season. At Florida State he helped coach the men's team to wins over #7 Oklahoma and #15 Texas to earn a season high ranking of #16 in the nation. Following the 2012-13 season, Urbina returned to BYU as the women's assistant where he helped coach the Cougars to a 2nd place finish in the West Coast Conference, earning a season-high national ranking of #51.
Originally from Huntington Beach, Calif., Urbina attended San Joaguin High School. He is married to the former Sarah Weaver.
