
Stafford Named WWC Wrestler of the Week

OREM, Utah - Air Force Academy 165-pound senior Jesse Stafford (Loomis, Calif./Del Oro HS) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance on the mat last week. The conference award was announced Tuesday by the league.
Stafford went 4-0 en route to the 165-pound title in the Elite Division at Wyoming's 37th annual Cowboy Open last Saturday. Stafford posted two falls and two decisions, including a 2-0 decision in the title match over Wisconsin's Issac Jordan, a returning NCAA All-American. The Falcon senior earned Outstanding Wrestler honors in the Cowboy Open's Elite Division.
Stafford also posted a pair of falls at the tournament as he pinned both New Mexico Highlands' Juan Alvarado (3:59) in the opening round and conference foe Mitchell Polkowske of Northern Colorado in the semis (4:09). The Loomis, California, native also recorded an 8-2 decision over Nebraska's Austin Wilson in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
The weekly honor is Stafford's first of the season and second of his career.
The Western Wrestling Conference, which is in its ninth year of competition, is comprised of six schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
