NEW YORK, N.Y. - Air Force junior Gytenis Borusas claimed a 185-pound victory on Monday, Nov. 24, as three members of the Air Force boxing team wrapped up competition at the Arthur Mercante Invitational at the New York Athletic Club.
Borusas, who earned a unanimous decision over Navy's Jordan Looney, was named the Academy's Boxer of the Night. With the win from Borusas, Air Force improves to 3-1 against the Midshipmen this season.
Seniors Roy Taylor and Brandon Pitts also competed at the Arthur Mercante Invitational, which featured some of the top NCBA boxers from Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Lock Haven, Navy and Nevada. Taylor dropped a close decision to Army's Tyler Payne (the 2014 NCBA runner-up at 125 pounds) in the night's 137-pound contest, while Pitts lost a close 175-pound bout to Coast Guard's Taylor Tennyson, the defending NCBA champion in that weight division.
The Falcons return to action on Dec. 4, when they host Thursday Night Throwdown at the Cadet Gym.
