
Taylor, Carpenter advance to semifinals at Grand Canyon Invitational

Senior Grant Taylor and sophomore Nicholas Carpenter each won twice to advance to the semifinals of their flights Friday at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz.
Taylor defeated Lagarreta of Grand Canyon, 6-2, 7-5 and Cilic of Nevada, 6-3, 6-4, to advance in Flight 2 while Carpenter beat Hutchinson of ACU, 6-0, 6-3 and Hernandez of California-Irvine, 6-3, 7-5 in Flight 3. The pair will play semifinals matches on Saturday.
In others singles action, sophomore Lucas Fumagalli lost 6-0, 7-5 to Chargui of Nevada in Flight 1. Parks lost a pair of matches in flight 2, falling to Hammel of UCI 6-2, 6-4 and Lee of NAU, 6-4, 6-7, 10-3. Sophomore Dillon Launius advanced to the quarterfinals in Flight 3, defeating Baumstark of California-Riverside, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 before falling to Domanski of ACU, 6-3, 6-0.
Sophomore Mark Kite lost in the first round of Flight 3 to Roggenkamp of GSU, 7-5, 6-1, before battling back in the consolation round to defeat Ajanovic of NAU, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Max Olson did the same in Flight 3, defeating Gleason of ACU, 6-2, 6-4, before losing to Chazeau of GCU, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Falcons won just one doubles match on the day, as Carpenter and Kite defeated Gleason and McCarty of ACU, 8-6, in the round robin doubles flight. McCullers and Fumagalli fell to Maroscher and Chazeau of GSU, 8-4, while Taylor and Launius were beaten, 8-6, by Gobatie and Locci of NAU. Parks and Olson fell to Pham and Hammel of UCI 8-6 to round out doubles play.
