WATERTOWN, Mass. -Andrew Gladiuk scored early in the third period to lead Bentley to a 2-1 win over Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey Conference game Friday, Dec. 5, at the John A. Ryan Center in Watertown, Mass.
Air Force senior Scott Holm gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with 50 seconds left in the first period. Chad Demers made a pass to the slot and Holm netted his team-leading seventh of the season.
Midway through the second period, Air Force went on the power-play, but it was Bentley that found the back of the net. On an odd-man rush, Alex Kubiak fed Brett Switzer on the right side for a short-handed goal at 8:05 of the second period.
Early in the third period, Gladiuk, the conference's leading scorer, gave Bentley a 2-1 lead on a flurry in front of the Air Force net. His league-leading 12th goal of the season was the eventual game-winner. Air Force pulled its goalie with 2:27 left and created some chaos, but was unable to tie the game.
Air Force outshot Bentley, 34-29, in the game. Chris Truehl made 27 saves for Air Force while Jayson Argue made 33 for Bentley. Bentley, who entered the game with the nation's top power-play unit, was 0-for-2 on the man-advantage. AFA was 0-for-1.
"You are not going to win many games when you only score one goal," head coach Frank Serratore said. "The margin of error is just too thin. The third period was, by far, the best period we played. We had so many chances, but they are ones to score the only goal of the period. I was very proud of our guys the way they played in the third and if we play like that on Saturday night, I like our chances."
Air Force and Bentley conclude the two-game series on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7:05 pm ET in Watertown, Mass.
