Air Force baseball head coach Mike Kazlausky recently named senior catcher/RHP Brian Sicher team captain for the upcoming 2015 season. Sicher took a moment from his busy schedule to answer some questions as Falcon baseball prepares for Fall practices.
How does it feel to be named team captain for the 2015 season?
It's a huge honor, I'm fired up to lead the boys to the best of my ability.
Do you feel any added pressure now that coach Kaz has instilled a lot of responsibility on your shoulders?
No, not at all.
Now that you're a senior, has the past three years seem to have flown by for you?
Yes, absolutely. The past three years have gone by faster than I ever could have imagined.
As a fourth year veteran with the baseball program, what kind of advice are you giving to the freshmen who are just getting started?
Start making good relationships with your teachers, AOC's (Air Force Office Commanding) and AMT's (Academic Military Trainer). Get ahead in the classroom. Call your family often. Get sleep.
How was your experience playing summer ball for the Eau Claire Express in the Northwoods League?
Amazing, I can't thank the Varsho Family and community of Eau Claire enough for giving me the opportunity to compete for the Express. Playing for the Express the past three summers have been some of my best baseball memories over my entire life.
As you enter fall ball, what are you looking to accomplish personally to prepare for the upcoming season and what are your expectations of the team during fall ball?
Personally, I want to be the best example on and off the field to all our younger guys. I want to set the precedent on how to work and prepare for the spring season. My expectations of the team are for us to work hard every day, compete, and have fun.
What are some team goals or expectations for the 2015 season?
Sweep Navy and sweep Army.
