Air Force Wins NCBA Showcase in Nevada

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team won the National Collegiate Boxing Association Showcase in Reno, Nev., on Friday, Nov. 14, posting a 5-2 record. The Falcon claimed four victories over host Nevada and one over California in a contest that featured teams from the NCBA West Region.
Junior Johnny Wells was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week, after posting his best performance of the year. Wells earned a victory over Nevada's Tristian Hariman in a 160-pound contest.
Sophomore Osama Farqaleet had a successful collegiate debut, winning a 125-pound decision over Nevada's Gabe Mejorado to kick off the night for Air Force. Farqaleet was one of three Falcons to claim their first collegiate victory in Reno, as senior Joshua Key defeated Nevada's Jose Ayala at 139 pounds and sophomore Naji Bseiso earned the 165-pound decision over California's Brent Scheidenmantele.
Senior Jacob Berggren rounded out the Falcons' list of event winners, as he claimed a 142-pound decision over Nevada's Kirk Jackson.
Two other Air Force boxers stepped into the ring last night. In his collegiate debut, freshman Gunther Prussing lost a 130-pound decision to UC Davis' Bijon Hardison, while junior Pedro Barrientes dropped a decision to Nevada's Britt Brown in a 156-pound contest.
The Falcons host a round of Friday Night Fights on Nov. 20, before traveling to New York City for the Arthur Mercante Invitational on Monday, Nov. 23.
