Minneapolis, Minn. - In their second dual of the day, Air Force wrestling (1-2, 0-1 Big12) fell short against No. 22 Minnesota (4-3, 0-0 B1G), 22-12, in Sports Pavilion, Minneapolis, Minn.
Four Falcons tallied victories over the Gopher powerhouse in the 133, 149, 165 and 174 classes. No. 13 Josh Martinez earned a decision victory over Sam Brancale, 7-5. Jerry McGinty and Alex Lopouchanski both earned decision victories, 7-3 and 3-2 respectively. Minnesota native, Adam Jackson rounded out the Falcon victories with a 5-1 decision over Jordan Rothers.
With the match tied at 12, freshman Anthony McLaughlin squared off against Minnesota's Chris Pfarr. The match was tied at five at the end of regulation and headed to sudden victory overtime. Knotted up in escapes, the bout went into a second sudden victory period only to have a second set of tiebreakers to follow. Pfarr had a 0.4 second riding time advantage, which became the deciding factor by NCAA regulation for matches tied after 11 minutes of wrestling. The half-second advantage would give Pfarr the point along with a narrow victory over McLaughlin.
With the momentum in their favor, Minnesota would earn wins in the final two bouts to seal the score at 22-12 in favor of the Gophers.
