Air Force Wrestling Concludes Cowboy Open With Outstanding Wrestler

Laramie, Wyo. - Josh Martinez led the Falcons with an individual title as Air Force wrestling got the 2015-16 season off to a strong start on Saturday, finishing with 10 total place-winners at the Cowboy Open, hosted by Wyoming.
Martinez earned Outstanding Wrestler honors in the Cowboy Open's Elite Division, going 4-0 en route to the title at 133 pounds. Martinez posted a tech fall in the first round with three decision victories to follow, including a 2-1 decision over Nebraska-Kearney's two-time NCAA Div. II national champion, Daniel DeShazer. Martinez would earn the title with a 10-5 decision victory over Northern Colorado's Rico Montoya.
Four of the five Falcons that made it to championship bouts earned second place finishes.
Freshman Alex Lopouchanski (165) went 4-1 on the night earning decision victories up to the final bout where he was bested in a 5-3 decision against Northern Colorado's, Keilan Torres.
Adam Jackson (174) went 3-1 on the night, earning three decision victories before falling to Wyoming's two-time NCAA qualifier, Ben Stroh.
Zach Stepan (157) also went 3-1 on the night, earning three decision victories before dropping the championship match against Northern Colorado's, Eleazar DeLuca, in a 6-1 decision.
Jerry McGinty logged three wins on the night, including a technical fall in the quarterfinals before falling in the championship with an injury default against Chadron State's, Terrence McKinney.
Parker Hines (197) earned a third place finish over NAIA All-American Garret DeMers in a 10-5 decision. Hines also earned a major decision in the quarter-finals before dropping the semi-finals match to Northern Colorado's NCAA qualifier, Trent Noon.
Anthony McHugh (141) went 5-1 on the night with two falls and two decisions to earn a third place finish in the elite bracket.
Anthony McLaughlin (184) went 3-1 on the night earning a fall and a major decision leading up to his third place victory over Wyoming senior, Jace Jensen in a 5-2 decision.
Marcus Malecek (285) earned a fourth place finish, posting a decision victory before dropping a major decision to Wyoming's NCAA qualifier, Tanner Harms. Connor Hedash (157) also earned a fourth place finish going 3-2 on the evening tallying a fall and a major decision.
