COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After recording the nation's best pole vault clearance at the Air Force Holiday Open last weekend, senior Dylan Bell (Alvarado, Texas) earned the season's first Mountain West Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
With his fifth weekly conference award, Bell matched the Academy record for such honors in a career.
Bell cleared 17'6½" to finish as the top collegiate vaulter at the Falcons' season-opening meet. That height, his best indoor clearance since last January, currently leads the NCAA (all divisions) by an inch-and-a-half. Finishing second overall in the 13-vaulter field, Bell paced the Falcons to five of the top seven spots in that event.
Bell shared the season's first weekly award with Boise State's David Elliott (men's track athlete of the week), Colorado State's Leah Fair (women's track athlete of the week) and Wyoming's Emelda Malm-Annan (women's field athlete of the week).
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Jan. 8, when they host the third-annual Air Force Collegiate Open at the Academy's Cadet Field House Indoor Track.
