
Distance Runners Shine at Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Members of the Air Force track and field team's distance squad had a strong day of competition at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., accounting for two first-place finishes and the second-fastest women's 5000-meter time in Academy history during the day's three races.
Junior Hannah Everson clocked the second-fastest 5000-meter time in Academy history (16:56.18) to finish fourth in the invitational section of that event, while senior Riley Coates won the men's race with a career-best time of 14:21.04.
Backed by a first-place finish from sophomore Kyle Eller, Air Force claimed four of the top seven placements in the 3000-meter run. Eller won the race with a career-best 8:22.73, while classmate Ryan Graf finished third behind a personal-best time of 8:27.41. Junior Sean Bapty added a fifth-place, career-best time of 8:29.29, while sophomore Jason Engel crossed the finish line in 8:33.51 to take seventh in his debut at that distance.
Three Falcons competed in invitational sections of the pole vault and high jump, with senior Joey Uhle (seventh tie, 17'2¾") and sophomore Taylor Smith (14th, 6'9") leading the contingent in their respective events.
Junior Grant Hamilton paced a quartet of Falcons in the shot put, finishing fourth with a throw of 58'8¾". Sophomore Darby Maier added a 19th-place finish (53'6½") in the men's field, while senior Danielle Tabb and junior Katelyn Holland finished 17th (47'8") and 29th (42'10¾"), respectively, in the women's event.
Senior Kobi Rex finished 13th in the open high jump (6'7"), while freshman John Reynolds II rounded out the Air Force contingent with a 19th-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 48'3¼".
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Feb. 20, when they travel to Laramie, Wyo., for the Rocky Mountain Classic.
