
Air Force Falls at New Mexico Sunday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Air Force baseball dropped a 15-5 ballgame to New Mexico in Mountain West action Sunday afternoon at Lobo Field. The Falcons dropped to 1-6, 1-2 MW while the Lobos improved 5-2, 2-1 MW.
New Mexico erupted for nine runs in the first three innings and scored six in the final two innings.
The Falcons had 11 hits to eight for the Lobos. Air Force's 1-through-4 hitters combined to go 9-for-17. Junior Spencer Draws and senior Noah Pierce had three hits and two RBIs each. Sophomore Tyler Jones and senior Tyler Jones had two hits each.
Ryan Holloway (0-1) took the loss for AFA, with one inning pitched. Sophomore Trent Monaghan relieved Holloway and pitched the following 6.2 innings. Monaghan allowed three earned runs while sticking out six. Senior Ben Yokley pitched the final 1.1 innings, striking out two.
Luis Gonzalez (2-0) picked up the win in relief for UNM. Lobo starter Drew Bridges lasted just two innings, allowing three runs. New Mexico had eight hits on the day. Designated hitter Chris DeVito continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
New Mexico score two runs in the first, four in the second and three in the third. Air Force plated one in the first and two in the second.
The Falcons plated two runs in the sixth to pull to within four runs at 9-5. New Mexico added three runs in the eighth and ninth.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 24, hosting Adams State.
