
Falcons Open Competition at MW Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Highlighted by a first-place finish in the heptathlon shot put from senior Evan McDowell, two members of the Air Force track and field team opened competition at the 2015 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships today (Feb. 26) in Albuquerque.
After the first four heptathlon events, McDowell is in seventh with 2,649 points, while freshman Tyler Berson sits in 14th with 2,375 points.
McDowell used a strong final throw of 42'1½" to win the shot put and claim the duo's best event finish of the day. The senior added top-10 marks in the high jump (ninth, 5'11½") and long jump (10th, 20'2¼"), while finishing 14th in his first 60-meter dash of the season (7.45)
Making his debut at the conference championship meet, Berson recorded three 12th-place finishes. He recorded a personal-best distance of 33'4½" to earn that placement in the shot put, while also finishing 12th in the 60-meter dash (7.41) and high jump (5'7"). Berson also posted a 13th-place distance of 19'9½" in the long jump to round out his first day of action.
McDowell and Berson return to the Albuquerque Convention Center tomorrow (Feb. 27) morning at 11:00 a.m., while the rest of the squad opens competition at the MW Indoor Track and Field Championships at 12:30 p.m.
