
Air Force Baseball Falls Friday at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Air Force baseball dropped its series opener at San Diego State, 14-2, Friday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Falcons dropped to 9-11, 5-5 MW on the season.
The Air Force offense struggled against San Diego State ace Bubba Derby (2-1), who allowed just one run in seven innings. Derby struck out 10 in the win.
Falcon starting pitcher Griffin Jax (1-4) pitched 5.2 innings, striking out three in the loss. The Falcons also had relief outings from the freshman trio of Nick Biancalana, Tucker Jacobs and Ryan Holloway. Senior Dominic Vicino also made his collegiate debut in relief, getting the last two outs of the eighth inning.
Air Force had five hits in the game. Rightfielder Spencer Draws hit a triple and scored a run. Third baseman Noah Pierce had a hit, run scored and RBI. First baseman Tyler Saleck doubled and drove in a run.
The Aztecs (17-5, 5-2) had 15 hits in the game. Third baseman Ty France went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Catcher Seby Zavala also added a home run.
After the Falcons plated a run in the first to take an early lead, SDSU tied it up with a run in the second. The Aztecs scored three runs in the third to take the lead and extended it with four more runs in the fifth. San Diego State scored six runs in the eighth inning and AFA added a run in the ninth.
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 1 pm PT.
